Voiceless Campaign

March 2, 2010

Dear Canadians,

A while ago you helped us by signing a petition titled “Stop Internet sex crimes against Children.”  Since signing a number of good developments have occurred.

Minister of Justice, Rob Nicholson, has introduced legislation (BillC58) calling for required reporting of crimes against children by Internet Service providers and all other people who become aware of such horrendous crimes.  This is a wonderful start toward better protection for children. (The Bill died in prorogue but we understand it will be reintroduced). Media are now reporting on this issue more accurately using the term child sex abuse more than child porn. And many Canadians are realizing they need to protect their children.

There is more work to be done. We need the Criminal Code changed. We need much stronger sentences for pedophiles who abuse kids (currently minimum for making “porn” is 90 days). And criminals often get to serve their sentence on the “weekends.”

We have produced a brochure calling on Canadians to ask their own MP to ensure passage of new legislation. You can see the brochure on our new website www.childsafenation.ca

If you want a brochure we will send one. If you can help distribute brochures to others order them. Please call or email us and we will send them to you. We need to show the world Canadians do value children and we will protect our innocent and vulnerable.

I would encourage you to read the brochure and call your MP in early March when they go back to Ottawa. Click the link to find your MP: http://www2.parl.gc.ca/parlinfo/compilations/HouseOfCommons/

Again thanks for signing the petition that helps us show the government the desire of Canadians. We have almost 50,000 people from three different petition sources – you are one of them.
